Written by: Chief Executive's Emergency Planning

Summary

Emergency incidents, whilst infrequent, do occur and we must be ready to respond to them and no matter what the cause of an incident may be the most likely results are that

a) People require to be moved to a place of safety

b) People require support and assistance

c) Vulnerable people may need particular support.

This Plan helps to address these issues.

The Plan is divided into three parts as follows:-

Part 1

Deals with the primary objectives of Social Work staff involved in a major incident and in particular covers

a) Vulnerable People
b) Call Out System
c) Potential Staffing Requirements
d) Emergency Boxes
e) Log Keeping.

Part 2

Deals with the requirements involved in establishing Emergency Rest Centres. This includes identifying potential locations, potential staffing requirements, introduces an administration system, highlights the responsibilities attached to the various staffing roles as well as giving guidance on a number of issues which may be expected to arise.

Part 3

Deals specifically with the procedures to be adopted to establish an Emergency Rest Centre at Eyemouth Community Centre in connection with an incident at Torness Nuclear Power Station.
Whilst still operating within the guidance given in Part 2 of the Plan, being pre-identified allows for some additional advanced planning.
