Rural development issues

The Scottish Borders is a sparsely populated rural area. Due to its rural nature, there is a strong base of primary production including a wide variety of agricultural produce, a significant  forest  resource and an important local  fishing  fleet. The  River Tweed  (link to external website) also provides an important fisheries and tourism resource.
