Winter Service

General Information on the Roads Winter Service

What we do:

This service is provided by our Roads and Fleet Division and aims to assist road users in adverse winter conditions by providing a service which is considered reasonable to prevent snow and ice endangering the safe passage of pedestrians and vehicles, using available financial and operational resources. In accordance with 'Delivering Best Value in Highway Maintenance - Code of Practice for Maintenance Management', a risk assessment of the network is carried to determine priority salting routes and treatment of all routes is according to an established winter road hierarchy. Modifications to priority routes are made in response to changing circumstances (e.g. changes in school bus routes), within logistical constraints.
