This section includes information on the various projects that are being run by the Council to improve the Borders for the benefit of the local communities. 

  • The Waverley Railway Project is an initiative with the ultimate aim of re-establishing a rail link to provide a passenger transport service from Edinburgh to the central Borders area in Scotland by 2008.
  • Better Schools is a PPP project to replace three high schools.    This is a key element of the Council's proposals to renew its school Estate.
  • The Galashiels Inner Relief Road and Town Centre Traffic Management Scheme  is due to start in September 2005 to address current and future traffic problems in Galashiels due to increasing car ownership and the possible return of the railway to the Borders.
  • More information on the discussions and plans for regenerating Newtown St. Boswells are available.
  • The Heart of Hawick is part of a major project in regeneration for the whole of the Borders.
  • The Floral Gateway is a competition designed to encourage communities groups in the Scottish Borders to take an interest in their areas.
  • Transforming Children’s Services (TCS) is a very significant project focused on improving the services provided to children, young people and their families.
