Scottish Borders Council has 11 Wards, 10 Wards having 3 Elected Members and 1 Ward having 4 Elected Members (Councillor).

The political make-up of the Council is - Scottish Conservative and Unionists - 11; Liberal Democrats - 10; SNP - 6; Independent/No Ticket - 5; Borders Party - 2.

Councillor Code of Conduct

  • Councillor code of conduct - In May 2003, the Standard Commission brought in a new Code of Conduct which applies to the behaviour of all Councillors throughout Scotland.
  • Scottish Borders Council has also approved its own code of conduct for Councillors

 

Register of Members' Interests

  • The Register consists of entries made by each Elected Member of registerable interests under the Ethical Standards in Public Life etc (Scotland) Act 2000 and the (Register of Interests) Regulations 2003.

 

Members Allowances and Expenses

The Council must by 1 June publish on its website the allowances and expenses paid to its Members during the previous financial year in accordance with Regulation 6(5) of the Local Government (Allowances and Expenses) (Scotland) Regulations 2007.

 

Members Training

  • All 34 Members participated in Training since their Election on 3rd May 2007.  Details of the Training that Members have attended can be found on the Training for Members document.
