A celebration of 10 years of successful twinning between Selkirk and the Bavarian town of Plattling takes place in Selkirk with the Stadfest festival and St Laurence Fair.
Over 100 Plattlingers are descending on Selkirk to join in the celebrations with a two day event full of music, traditional German and Scottish fare! The event programme starts on Friday night in the Victoria Halls in Selkirk for a ticketed only Bavarian style concert of
“Oompah” and traditional Scottish music, including a ‘first’ in Scotland – the oompah band, silver band and the pipe all band
harmonising together! There will be a roving conjuror and food such as leberkäse, weisskraut, sauerkraut and karloffelsalat
(spiced pork, sweet and sour preserved cabbage and Bavarian potato salad) all largely prepared in Selkirk for the occasion. Saturday sees the first St Laurence Fair in Selkirk for 300 years. This ancient town festival, originally granted in 1535 by King James V, promises to be a day of music and cheer in and around the High Street. There will be a Beer Keller in the Victoria Hall, gift and food stalls and a continental market in Selkirk Market Place. |
