Life in the Borders

Business Support

The business support provided by the Economic Development section at Scottish Borders Council is driven by the local economic development strategy and is underpinned by the Local Government in Scotland Act 2003 (external link) which provides general powers to promote and improve well-being.

We support the development of small and medium sized enterprises in a number of ways:

  • by providing a business information pack
  • by developing promotional initiatives
  • by working in partnership with, and providing funding for, Scottish Enterprise (SE) projects
  • by working with the Business Gateway which offers Scottish Borders’ businesses a single point of access to information and publicly funded services
  • by supporting the Export Club (external website). The Scottish Borders Export Club is an independent group of business people involved with or interested in exporting. It is recognised as a key forum for discussion between organisations interested in promoting export related activities.
  • Working with the Borders Chamber of Commerce

More information on business rates, making planning applications and economic statistics are available.
