Sport & physical activity strategy

Our Vision - 'the Scottish Borders is a place where individuals and communities can get involved in sport and physical activity for enjoyment, health and well-being, and stay involved to reach their full potential'.

Scottish Borders Council is consultation with key partners and individuals has written its first strategy for sport and physical activity which will provide a plan and framework to co-ordinate, develop and guide activities in the Borders over the next 5 years (2006-2001).

The Strategy is built around five key themes:

  • Promoting wellbeing through physical activity
  • Developing facility provision and community access
  • Sustaining and developing coaches and volunteers
  • Supporting thriving clubs and organisations
  • Creating athlete potential

The themes were identified through a series of consultation events. The main barriers to people participating in sport and physical activity as well as potential solutions were highlighted at the events and these have been incorporated into draft strategy.

The strategy is a partnership document and draws together the aims of a wide range of agencies and organisations including NHS Borders, Borders Sport & Leisure Trust, Sportscotland, District Sport Councils, Schools, Clubs, National Governing Bodies and many more.

A summary of the draft strategy and strategic outcomes are available on the website.

We are keen to know what you think and this is your opportunity to see what is being proposed and comment. The framework is broad in terms of a strategic direction across the Scottish Borders, however the physical activity and sport forum and working groups will develop a series of specific action plans which will deliver the targets set.

A questionnaire can be downloaded from the links below and we would be grateful if you could take the time to complete this and return it to the address at the bottom of the questionnaire or online
