Frequently Asked Questions about PublicAccess
Is the PublicAccess system available 24/7?
The system is available to the public seven days a week. There are times when maintenance and updates will mean the system is unavailable for certain periods. We aim to keep this to a minimum.
How easy is it to use the system?
The PublicAccess system was designed with ease of use in mind. Menu options are clearly labelled on each page and the information returned is presented in tabbed screens to make it easy to see. By selecting the “Help” option from the menu you can obtain instructions on how to get the most from the system.
How up to date is the information provided?
The PublicAccess system provides a live link through to the Planning database at Scottish Borders Council. The information held is updated many times daily. Where available, the “Last Updated” information on the home pages of Planning and Building indicates the precise date and time the Planning database was last updated.
Is the information accurate?
Scottish Borders Council makes every effort to ensure the information we provide is accurate. However, some data sets, particularly constraints, are incomplete. You should check with Development Control or Building Standards officers before making important decisions based on the information you see.
Is the information you hold protected in any way?
Scottish Borders Council takes security of our systems very seriously. All public facing systems are held in physically secure areas and the hardware and software systems are protected by modern security technology.
What about copyright and personal information?
The PublicAccess system was designed to make it easy for the public to see information and documents held by the Planning dept. This means that names, addresses and signatures are available for anyone to view. The same applies to plans, drawings and material prepared by architects or other members of the public. Copyright Acts protect these documents. You cannot make copies without the prior consent of the copyright owner.
