Scottish Borders Greenspace Audit and Strategy
Questionnaire
As you may know, the Scottish Government recently published Scottish Planning Policy 11, Open Space and Physical Activity. It requires all Scottish local authorities to undertake an audit of the open spaces in their area and prepare an open space strategy to help guide planning policy and open space management and maintenance. The broad aim of the audit and strategy is to ensure there is enough provision of various kinds; that the quality is appropriate; and that spaces and facilities are reasonably accessible to everyone who might want to use them. There may be more than enough of some types of green space, but not enough of others and some spaces may be over-used and others under-used. By “green spaces” we mean Allotments; Amenity green spaces in housing areas; Bowling greens; Equipped play areas for children; Grass pitches for cricket, football, hockey and rugby; Green corridors such as paths and cycleways; Natural green spaces; Parks and gardens; and Teenage facilities such as shelters, ball courts and skateboard areas.
The Council has commissioned consultants to help with the assessment and they are undertaking an audit of all green spaces and sports facilities and seeking to establish the views of various local stakeholders. As part of this process, they wish to seek the views of Borders residents through this online questionnaire. Completing it should take only a few minutes.
