New contracts signed for Borders bus services

Thursday, July 17 2008

Contracts have been signed this week for the operation of bus services in the Borders.

In May, Munro’s of Jedburgh and Mobility Assist served notice on some contracts. The affected routes were put out to tender and new operators have now been appointed for all routes.

Passengers will see a change of operator on some routes but contract timetables will remain the same.

Munro’s of Jedburgh will continue to operate services 51 and 52 Jedburgh / Kelso to Edinburgh; service 61 Lauder to Galashiels; service 64 Maxton, Bowden and Gattonside to Newtown and Melrose and service 68 Galashiels to Jedburgh. (Service 64 will now be operated by Peter Hogg of Jedburgh but sub-contracted to

Munro’s of Jedburgh so passengers will see no change on this route.)

Changes to operators are: Service 66 Galashiels to Earlston and Kelso previously operated by Munro’s will be operated by First Edinburgh from 11 August 2008; service 67 Galashiels to Berwick via Kelso previously operated by Munro’s will be operated by Perryman’s from 11 August 2008; service 128 Newcastleton to Hawick previously operated by Mobility Assist will be operated by Telford’s Coaches with immediate effect and service 710 Kelso to Coldstream (for connection to Newcastle – Wednesday only) previously operated by Munro’s will be operated by Perryman’s from 11 August 2008.

Munro’s of Jedburgh will continue to operate services 66, 67 and 710 until the 11 August handover date.
