Teacher refresher courses on offer from SBC
Friday, September 12 2008
Teachers looking to return to work or supply teachers looking for updates can take advantage of some new courses on offer.
Scottish Borders Council (SBC) is running a series of refresher sessions for primary teachers who would like to return to the profession and teachers currently on the supply register.
The sessions are free and designed to update teachers on issues such as application forms and interview techniques; formative and national assessments; a curriculum for excellence; active learning; inclusion and positive discipline.
All sessions (listed below) are from 4pm - 5.30pm at the Langlee CPD centre, Marigold Drive, Galashiels, TD1 2LP.
- Monday 6 October - Assessment: Formative & National Testing/Journey to Excellence & ACE
- Monday 3 November - Promoting Positive Behaviour/Inclusion
- Monday 1 December - Application Forms & Interview Techniques/Q&A Session
Executive Member for Education, Councillor Catriona Bhatia, is encouraging teachers to get involved: “This is an excellent opportunity for primary teachers who have perhaps taken a career break, for whatever reason, and would like to get back into school either full time or on a supply basis.
“Certainly, it can be a daunting experience for anyone who has been away from the classroom for a period of time and this is why these sessions would be useful for teachers to be kept up to speed with new developments and also initiate contact with our experienced staff, who will help provide advice and support to help them get back in the classroom.”
All sessions are free and participants can come to one or all of them.
