The Big Draw comes to Coldstream

Wednesday, October 1 2008

A Big Draw event will be held in Coldstream Community Hall from 16-18 October as part of a national campaign to encourage people to draw.

It will offer free art and drawing sessions for people of all ages. Families and individuals are being encouraged to drop in and take part.

Rosy Hayward from the Museum Service explains said:  “We will be creating a giant mural on the theme of the Flodden Ride Out. Horses, riders, street scenes, pipe bands, crowds, motor cycle outriders and bunting will be assembled round the walls of the Hall.

“There will be all sorts of activities led by artist Sylvia Home, including drawing with river mud, high speed portraits, drawing with charcoal, pattern making and observational drawing.  Plenty of people will be on hand to help and give guidance and I would encourage people to come along even if they can only spare half an hour.”

Sessions start at 10am, noon and 1.30pm on Thursday and Friday. On Saturday, sessions will start at 10am and finish at 1pm when the final murals will be assembled.

The event has been planned by Coldstream’s Museum, Community Trust, Youth Group and Art Group with funding from Scottish Borders Council, Museums Galleries Scotland and Borders Decorative and Fine Arts Society, and assistance from Ahlstrom.
