Cobbles Inn wins 2008 Eating Out Awards

Winners of this year’s Taste Scottish Borders Eating Out Awards were announced on Monday (3 November).

The awards are managed and part-funded by Scottish Borders Council with support from Scottish Enterprise, NFU Scotland, the Southern Reporter and BC Consultants, as part of the Taste Scottish Borders initiative to showcase the region’s food and drink.

Members of the public were asked to vote for their favourite eating place, and submit a restaurant review. Ninety local establishments received more than 640 votes from their customers over the summer.

 

Nominations closed at the end of August, when the short-listed establishments were visited by independent professional restaurant inspectors. 

 

The overall winner was the Cobbles Inn, Kelso, which also won the Scottish Borders Council Award for Best Informal Evening Meal.

 

Other category winners were:

 

  • VisitScotland Award for Best Hospitality: Horseshoe Inn, Eddleston
  • Scottish Enterprise Award for Best Newcomer: Osso Restaurant, Peebles
  • Scottish Borders Council Award for Best Tearoom/ Café /Take Away: Russells Restaurant, Melrose
  • Scottish Borders Council Award for Best Informal Lunch: Marmion’s Brasserie, Melrose
  • Scottish Borders Council Award for Best Formal Meal: Hoebridge Inn, Gattonside
  • Scottish Borders Council Award for Best Borders Breakfast: Allerton House, Jedburgh
  • NFU Scotland Award for Local Produce Champion: Caddy Mann Restaurant near Jedburgh
  • Scottish Borders Council Award for Best Local Produce Supplier: Cool as…Farmhouse Ice-cream and Standhill Cheesery were joint winners.

 

The awards were presented by Councillor Vicky Davidson, Scottish Borders Council’s Executive Member for Economic Development, and sponsors of the individual categories.

 

The best restaurant review was by Nick Cook of Denholm, and the free prize draw was won by Shelagh Pearce of Selkirk.
