Calling All Borderers – cast your vote in national competition
Monday, November 17 2008
Two Borders community projects are set to battle for TV votes to help them each win £50,000 of lottery cash.
The projects, in Reston (Berwickshire) and Burnfoot (Hawick), are in the running to receive the lottery cash through the Big Lottery Fund’s People’s Millions competition, which will take place on ITV Border’s Lookaround programme on Tuesday 25 November and Wednesday 26 November. Their success will depend on how many votes they can attract from every corner of the Borders and beyond.
The projects are Reston Riverside Project in Berwickshire and Burnfoot ‘Fitba!’ project in Hawick. Five grants of up to £50,000 each are up for grabs and both these local projects have a great chance of winning the cash if they can get the whole of the Borders behind them.
Jean Robertson, Scottish Borders Council’s Lottery Officer said: “Both communities have worked exceptionally hard for many years to develop their projects and this is a fantastic opportunity to finally realise their dreams. As an area we have done well to get two great projects competing out of a total of eight from the ITV Border television region as a whole. But it is a competition and both communities are relying on the Borders people to vote on the day. It certainly worked last time round when Borders votes brought amazing success to all three projects in the running. I would ask that we all rally together once again in the true spirit of Borders support.”
So – Borders residents are being urged to tune in to Lookaround at 6p.m. on November 25 for Reston and the 26 for Burnfoot and cast their vote. The telephone numbers will also be available on www.biglotteryfund.org.uk/peoplesmillions from 9a.m. to 12 midnight on each day. Calls cost 10p each from a BT landline. Calls from other providers may be higher.
