New children’s play area for Duns

Tuesday, November 18 2008

The play area on the old bowling green in Duns has now been vastly improved after a complete renovation.

The Council had identified a need to replace the old equipment as, due to the popularity of the play area, it had suffered wear and tear.

Children from Duns Primary School were more than happy to help celebrate the opening of the upgraded play area on Teindhill Green last week, when they got the chance to see for themselves the new play equipment, new surfacing and new fencing.

The new equipment from Scottish based KC Leisure and Jupiter Play was funded and installed by SBC’s Parks Department while the fencing was provided through an SB Local Small Schemes grant.

All the equipment and fencing is designed to meet current stringent safety standards; the fencing has no sharp edges, is brightly coloured and has a self-closing gate and the new play safety surface is hardwood chips – one of the safest bases available for play areas.

Councillor Frances Renton, Children’s Champion for Scottish Borders Council, said: “I’m delighted to see this new, modern facility being used by the local children. It gives them a creative, fun but also safe area where they can enjoy some fresh air and exercise. I would like to thank the Council on behalf of the children of Duns and I look forward to seeing the children enjoying the facility for many years to come.”
