Kelso gas supply update – Wednesday 12 noon

Wednesday, December 3 2008

Almost half of the 3000 affected properties in Kelso have now had their gas supply restored – including Kelso Hospital and Health Centre and Kelso High School and Edenside Primary School.

Approximately 800 further properties are expected to have their supply restored by the end of today (Wednesday). This will mean that some households will be without gas again tonight but this number is expected to be around 700.

Workers from Scotland Gas Networks (SGN) are concentrating this morning on town centre properties and have appealed to home and business owners in and around the town centre to try to make sure the engineers can gain access to their premises today. An engineer must be present before the gas supply can be restored to each individual property.

In the meantime, the drop-in centre at Kelso High School will remain open throughout the day today for residents needing to warm up. Hot food and drinks are being provided by volunteers from the WRVS and Council catering staff. Red Cross volunteers have also been providing transport to the centre. A decision on overnight provision will be taken later this afternoon.

Kelso High School and Edenside Primary School will be open as normal tomorrow (Thursday).

More information on the situation is available on the SGN website at www.scotiagasnetworks.co.uk

SGN’s emergency number is 0845 070 1432. People requiring urgent assistance can also contact SBC’s Bordercare on 01896 752 111.
