Work starts at Priorsford Primary School
Wednesday, December 3 2008
Work has started on the second phase of the extension to Priorsford Primary School in Peebles this week.
Following the completion of phase one in December last year to provide a new assembly hall, library, general purpose room and social areas - the school is now celebrating the start of work on phase two and three.
The plans include the addition of a new secure entrance, enhanced staff and visiting services accommodation, a new classroom and activity space to the rear as well as the construction of a full-size Tarmac netball court.
Executive Member for Education, Councillor Catriona Bhatia, said: “This is great news and a further much-needed investment for Priorsford School which remains our largest primary school with over 400 pupils. With the school roll rising, it is the securing of developer contributions of almost £750,000 from the nearby development at Whitehaugh Park which has enabled these essential works to take place.”
Councillor Graham Garvie, Executive Member for Sport, Culture and Community Education added: “I am delighted that the next phase of works is now underway at Priorsford Primary School. Parents and staff have been working long and hard to ensure the school continues to receive the investment it requires and I am looking forward to seeing the building works progress over the coming months.”
The building has been designed by Scottish Borders Council’s in-house architects. The works commenced this week and are due for completion before the start of the new 2009/10 school term.
During the works, the Marmion Road entrance is being used by contractors. Visitors should use the Kingsmeadows Gardens entrance.
