Kelso gas supply update – Wednesday 4pm

Wednesday, December 3 2008

Work is progressing well to reconnect Kelso properties to the gas supply. The majority of homes are expected to be back on by tonight (Wednesday).

Priority properties including Kelso Hospital, care homes and sheltered housing have all been reconnected.

The homes expected to be without gas tonight are all in the south-west of the town, including Horse Market, Wood Market, The Butts, Shedden Park Road, Coal Market and Bridge Street – approximately 350 properties.

NHS Borders and Scottish Borders Council (SBC) social work teams are keeping in contact with vulnerable residents in these areas to ensure their needs are met.

Scotland Gas Networks (SGN) has confirmed that 2000 properties have been reconnected, with a further 600 expected to be connected tonight (Wednesday). The company hopes to connect the remaining properties tomorrow (Thursday). There remains the possibility of some individual properties remaining without gas where engineers, at the moment, cannot gain access.

The drop-in centre at Kelso High School will remain open until 8.30pm tonight for residents in need of a hot meal or simply to warm up.

The centre had no visitors during the night last night so it has been decided that it should close overnight on Wednesday, re-opening at 8am tomorrow (Thursday). Emergency teams will remain on standby.

Anyone requiring urgent assistance at any time should phone SBC’s 24 hour Bordercare number on 01896 752 111.

More information on the situation is available on the SGN website at www.scotiagasnetworks.co.uk SGN’s emergency number is 0845 070 1432.
