Disabled Persons Parking Permit (Blue Badge Scheme)
On 1 April 2000 the Disabled Persons (Badges for Motor Vehicles)(Scotland) Regulations 2000 were introduced. The 'Orange Badge' was replaced by the European 'Blue Badge'.
The main changes are that:
· the design and colour of the badge are different
· the new blue badge is a standard design, used throughout Europe.
You can download an application form or a renewal form for a disabled person's parking permit (Blue Badge) in PDF format. You may qualify automatically, and the questions in Part B provide us with the relevant information for this "automatic eligibility". If you do not qualify automatically, your needs will be considered under "discretionary eligibility", and in that case the information in Parts C and D is important. The notes on the form tell you a little bit about qualifying criteria if you decide to apply for a Blue Badge. It will be helpful if you complete the whole form in BLOCK CAPITALS.
If you are applying under Part B, it is most important that you supply (in confidence) clear documentation of your entitlement, as described on the form. It will all be returned to you. Please do not post us your Post Office Order Book.
All applications should be accompanied by two recent photographs, the relevant fee and your signature in the box indicated. (Cheques or postal orders should be made payable to Scottish Borders Council - please do not send cash). Please mark "Blue Badge" on the top left hand corner of your envelope. Please note that applications can take up to 4/6 weeks to process and are all done by post. Taking a note of the date you posted may be helpful. Please ensure that all relevant and correct information is supplied.
You can find the current cost of applying for a Blue Badge by seeing our Fees and Charges, which cover all chargeable services provided by the Technical Services Department.
