Getting here by rail

Sadly, the Borders does not have a railway running through it - except the East Coast London to Edinburgh main line, which unfortunately does not have a station in the Borders. Much work is going on to rectify this as the Waverley Rail Project attempts to re-establish at least part of the old line between Edinburgh and Carlisle.

In the meantime, when travelling to the Borders by rail, you will arrive either at Edinburgh Waverley Station, Newcastle Central Station, Berwick-upon Tweed railway station or Carlisle railway station.

There are dedicated bus connections from Carlisle and Edinburgh railway stations to the Central Borders. Check your journey requirements with Traveline
